Glamorous and worldly, Sophie Choudry won the MTV India VJ Hunt. After establishing herself as a VJ, she turned her focus solely on her career as a singer and these days is taking up small parts in movies too.

Sophie Choudry was born in the United Kingdom. Her father who was an admirer of the actress Sophia Loren, named her Sophiya. She recently started using the name Sophie.

Music was a big part of her growing up years. While in school, she was in the choir and also participated in musicals staged in her school and college. She was thirteen years old when the music composer Biddu noticed her talent and she got the opportunity to sing back up for singers like Alisha Chinai and Shweta Shetty.

Choudry also excelled in academics and studied European Politics and French at the London school of Economics. She also spent time in Paris at Sciences-Po, which is where most of the French politicians have studied.

Sophie Choudry moved to India in 2003 and became a popular VJ on MTV India. She hosted shows like MTV Loveline.

She was part of the girl band Sansara before she went solo. Her album ‘Sophie and Dr.Love’ was released in 2003 which was followed by ‘BabyLove’. They included tracks like Mere Babu Chail Chabila and Ek Pardesi Mera Dil Legaya.

She is the winner of the Lycra MTV Style Award in 2004 for the Most Stylish Female in Music as well as the Bollywood Award for Best Pop Singer in 2005.

Choudry made her debut in Bollywood with David Dhawan’s Shaadi No.1. Her other movies are Pyar Ki Side Effects and Speed. She will be seen with Neil Nitin Mukesh, Rahul Dev and Bipasha Basu in Aa Dekhen Zara.

She started her career as an actress with the 1991 release Anaswaram, a Malayalam film, directed by Jomon, as the heroine of Mammootty, after which she focused on modeling.She subsequently won several pageants before returning to movies. She returned to Malayalam through Thantra and then went on to do famous Malayalam films such as Keerthi Chakra (2006) and the award-winning Paradesi. Her performance as Sarojini - a middle-class woman who fights against extreme odds - in the film, Madhya Venal earned her a special mention by Jury Chairman Bahman Ghobadi - famous Iranian director at the International Film Festival of Kerala. "Met with Womens' Commission regarding the Kayam ad and they offered me full backing. Thank you all and I hope justice will be done," she tweeted recently. While media profusely supported her with wide coverage, many saw it as a bold attempt by a female actor against what she perceived as gross injustice to her.
