Pooja Bhatt Biography
The gorgeous and spunky Pooja Bhatt, was the classic Daddy’s girl. After proving her prowess as an actress in movies like Sadak, Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin and Sir, she switched to directing and producing movies.

Basics on Pooja
Pooja Bhatt was born on 24th February 1972 in Mumbai to the director Mahesh Bhatt and Kiran Bhatt. Her parents divorced and actress Sonia Razdan is her step mother following her father’s second marriage.

Her family has been involved heavily in movies. Her grandfather was Nanabhai Bhatt, her uncle Mukesh Bhatt is the co-owner of Vishesh Films and her cousins are Emraan Hashmi and Vikram Bhatt.

Pooja was briefly involved with the VJ turned actor Ranvir Shorey. She married boyfriend Manish Makhija in 2003. He was a Channel [V] VJ, better known as Udham Singh and is currently a restaurateur.

As an Actress
1989 to 1993  The made-for-television movie Daddy (1989), directed by Mahesh Bhatt was Pooja Bhatt’s first movie when she was just seventeen years old. She played Anupam Kher’s daughter trying to bond with him and help him give up alcohol.

Mahesh Bhatt’s Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (1991) was a remake of Hollywood’s It Happened One Night. Bhatt played a spoilt brat who runs away from home to marry her boyfriend and meets a journalist, played by Aamir Khan, en route.

Sadak (1992) with Sanjay Dutt was a remake of another Hollywood hit Taxi Driver and she played a prostitute. The movie became a big hit. Junoon (1992) was a horror movie which cast her opposite Rahul Roy. She acted in movies like Saatwan Aasman, Jaanam and Prem Deewani in 1992 which were not as successful as her earlier movies.

In another made-for-television movie directed by her father, Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayi (1993), saw her as a woman suffering from some mental problems. She worked with Naseeruddin Shah in Sir (1993) as his student. The movie received positive reviews.


1994 to 2001 Pooja Bhatt appeared in many movies that were rated average like Kranti Kshetra (1994), Guneghar (1995), Hum Dono (1995) and Angrakshak (1995). Tamanna (1997) was a moderate success as it told the story of a eunuch who brings her up when he finds her abandoned as a baby.

J.P.Dutta’s Border (1997) which was a commercial success had her playing an army man’s wife. Her next big movie was Zakhm (1998). The movie was weaved around the demolition of the Babri Masjid and she played Ajay Devgan’s mother. She was last seen in Rahul Bose’s Everybody Says I Am Fine (2001) as Tanya, a divorcee.


As a director
Paap (2003) with John Abraham and Udita Goswami was a moderate success. Her next venture Holiday (2006) was a flop. Dhokha (2007) with new comer Muzammil Ibrahim was about a man who finds out that his wife was a suicide bomber and tries to put together the pieces. Her next movie to be released in 2009 is Kajraare with Himesh Reshammiya and Divya Khosla in the lead.


Pooja Bhatt has also produced movies like Dushman (1998), Sur: The Melody of Life (2002) and Jism (2003). She set up her own production house called Pooja Bhatt Productions in 1996.
