Bhavana is a south Indian actress, who appears in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada languages.She was born on 6 June 1986 in Thrissur, Kerala. She made her acting debut in Kamal’s Nammal (2002), which won her critical acclaim and various honors. Her original name is Karthika Balachandran.Her nickname is Kaathi.Her parents are Pushpa and G.Balachandran, a cinematographer. She has a brother, Jayadev.She entered in to Film industry when she was 17 years old.In 2003, she became the part of big hit movies like Chronic Bachelor, C.I.D.Moosa and Swapnakoodu .In 2004, her career turned down. Her movies like Youth Festival, Parayam, Bunglavil Outha etc failed at the box-office.The next year she had Chinthamani Kolacase and Chess, both the film got succeeded.Her next movie Chotta Mumbai is an average hit with Superstar Mohanlal.Her malayalm movies include Valathottu Thirinjal Nalamathe Veedu, Chathikkatha Chanthu , Runway, Amrutham, Udayananu Tharam, Hridayathil Sookshikkan, Police, Daivanamathil, Chanthupottu, Naran and Bus Conductor.Her latest releases are Marykkundoru Kunjaadu,Kudumbasree Travels and The Metro.

Her first release in Tamil film Chithiram Pesuthadi was a huge success.After that she did many tamil films.Her Tamil movies include Veyil, Koodal Nagar,Arya,Deepavali, Rameswaram, Vaazhthugal, Jayam Kondaan and Aasal.
In 2002, she won Special Jury Award for Best Actress for Nammal and Second Best Actress for Daivanamathil in 2005. She received Mathrubhumi Award for Swapnakoodu and C.I.D. Moosa in 2003.She also got Best Actress Filmfare Award South for Chithiram Pesuthadi.
