Sadhana Biography
The enigmatic Sadhana left an indelible mark on Bollywood of the 60s and 70s. The actress popularized the fringe, which came to be known as the Sadhana Cut.

Sadhana Shivdasani was born on 2nd September 1941 in Karachi, Pakistan. Her family moved to Mumbai, India at the time of the partition. The actor Hari Shivdasani was her cousin.

Sadhana met R.K.Nayyar during the making of Love in Shimla (1960) and the couple tied the knot in 1965. Nayyar passed away in the 90s.

Movies
With some help from Hari Shivdasani, Sadhana started working in Bollywood in Shree 420 (1955) in which she was a chorus girl. She was seen in a Sindhi movie, Abana (1958). Following these performances, she joined Sashadhar Mukherjee’s acting school.

She was offered a role in R.K.Nayyar’s Love in Shimla (1960) which was a hit. It was R.K. who suggested Sadhana get a fringe similar to the Hollywood actress Audrey Hepburn. Her breakthrough performance was Mere Mehboob (1963) which was closely followed by Woh Kaun Thi? (1964). Sadhana played a spooky and odd character in that movie. She worked with Khosla in two other movies – Mera Saaya (1966) and Anita (1967). Her next big movie was Yash Chopra’s Waqt (1965), a multi-starrer.

She took a break from cinema as she suffered from a thyroid problem.

She continued to churn out hits with Inteqaam (1969) and Ek Phool Do Mali (1969), in which she took on the role of Somna who loses her beau in an avalanche but years later he reappears. She also directed and acted in Geeta Mera Naam (1974) which was about four children who are separated but then cross paths when they are older. She was last seen in Mehfil (1978). Unlike many actresses Sadhana did not come back to movies in the role of a mother.
